Striding to the massive, elaborately carved wooden door, he paused to ponder the many strange faces that stared back at him. Otherworldly creatures howled in pain or pleasure, he could not tell which. Humans were depicted commiting unspeakable deeds against their fellows. Some parts of the door were marred and scratched by former occupants of the castle. Other places were polished smooth by untold years of pushing and pulling. Vendors hawked incense, trinkets, and small fruit filled pies. Further down the street, well dressed merchants sold bottles and casks of fine wines from the south.
